It took them months of research and experimentation. The wanted to know the reason why rocks move across the Death Valley. Researchers admit that it was probably the most boring experiment ever. And yes, rocks move across the place without any human intervention. For years, the activity has been riddled with mystery. But not this time, watch this video and see how it is explained:

Rocks move on a very slow pace and this happens in the middle of the day when the sun rises and warms the place. Its motion is set by thin layer of ice generated from the shallow pond and light breeze, the wind and sun which all play important role in how rocks slide through the surface. The team installed a weather station in the area and deployed rocks which are mounted with custom GPS units and recorders. After months, some of the rocks move a few meters away and their motion has been aptly recorded.

Today, sliding rocks continue to fascinate people. For a very long time, it was believed that rocks move through unknown forces. But now that until this experiment is concluded, science finally had its say. To add, it is worth mentioning that buoyancy plays a major factor here. The rocks’ weight is buoyed by the melting ice. The rocks are lifted as the ice freezes on the area. The tracks on the mud are the result of how howling winds have being dragging them.

People have been trying to explain this before. They have tried to reason this out every time they visit the area. This experiment only affirms what most people thought of long before. If you have been around the area and you have an inquisitive mind, you probably can make a layman’s explanation even before seeing this video.
